Laos: Hobbies and Games

For the Lao New Year (mid April, same day of the year as Thailand, Burma and Cambodia are now in 2551), the tradition is that everyone starts to water every bystanders, children, adolescents and adults, everyone puts sy, c is a gigantic battle of water in the street ... For information on New Year lasts for 6 days here. These two weapons are the guns has sometimes sprinkle some water but with buckets of water or a jet of water directly. Very funny, especially since it corresponds to the period of the warmest years (over 50 degrees) so the water is welcome!

Children Laos are very ingenious, not having much if anything, they play and make toys with whatever they find: here a propeller that rotates with the wind or current and made a part a sheet ...

It is very hot right now in Laos, the monsoon (rainy season) n have not yet started. Most children do so after a nap every afternoon, quiet activities like playing ball or swimming. They love to have some fun jumping off a bridge and get carried away by the stream a few meters before returning to shore.

The Petanque is also here a national sport, heritage left by the french, you can admire the bowling in all cities ...

Lots of boys and men play here also Kataw (a game or it s to make passes with a wicker ball, we had already spoken to you in the article "Thailand: Recreation ").

And here too the children love playing football, marbles and cycling.

A set of lady like ours but more rudimentary, made with a shoestring.

Arrives in a remote village in the mountains we saw these kids play a game that is very similar to our hopscotch.

Laos: Transportation

That different modes of transport in Laos:

A canoe advance has the force of arms with a paddle.

The ferry allows you to cross the Mekong to buses, cars, etc..

A mini ferry made through people, bikes, bicycles, scooters, etc.. it s really two canoes which are attached to which was available to a wooden board and a motor home. Rather rickety, sacred experience!

A bus load as well habit of Asia, we often travel with bikes INSIDE the bus as well as chickens, bags of 20kg rice and other ... The villagers down to town to shop for the family rarely the coup when they go they bring a heck of lot of things!

It is a trailer that motorcyclists and cyclists use by hanging under the buttocks of the passenger. A little dangerous, no? This one is usually empty, but the principle is the same as for the bus loaded to the max!

A tuk-tuk Lao.

Here songthaew is a mode of transportation most used by Laos, there is generally very greenhouses among the people, chickens and live chickens, fruits and vegetables, rice bags or bags of insects live (yes they eat insects grids here too!).

A kind of tractor.

the majority of students going to school by bicycle as you can see in this picture.

Laos: The Food

Here as usual our article on food:

can be found everywhere in the streets people selling grilled banana, crispy outside and melting inside, the Laotian love it!

Here
fish drying, there are all sorts of small, large, all the dishes you're sure to satisfy all appetites ... We tasted a few, there is not much love, c is too dirty for our taste!

Here is a traditional Lao dishes: a soup kitchen fire, say c is a noodle soup accompanied by sausage, sweet basil, onions, cabbage, green vegetables, etc.. Delicious and hearty well!

Grilling of any kind: birds, sausages, chicken, fish, frogs, etc.. Generally they have a slightly caramelized taste or at least sugar ... very good also! Sometimes not easy to eat because as you can see they did not like the animal but then do the whole grid with the head ... etc. But c is also good to eat at the local AC, not just eat different things but also learning to eat differently, in this case the arriving here not to stifle s with all the little bones!

pancakes of rice now dry, these are the pancakes that are used to make egg rolls and spring rolls, we do not describe this dish, there are in all Asian restaurants France, one imagines that you have already eaten!

bread and even chopsticks almost as good as in France you can imagine that benefits ... The Laotians themselves in a profusion eat, there are vendors everywhere sandwich, so we can eat bread with cheese (Laughing Cow) or the delicious homemade pasta or vegetables, chicken, tuna ... all with mayonnaise!
What beautiful country! The most fun in all this is that many c Laotian we have presented the baton as a specialty Lao ...

The rice noodle being dried (those in the fire soup ...)

Among Laotian dishes can also cite the extremely spicy papaya salad composed of vegetables varied and papaya shredded green, or the laap, a kind of salad also has made mince meat and macerated (fish, chicken, beef ..) served cold.
Among the dishes sold in the streets we love the sticky rice and dried beef skewers with sesame.

Thailand: The school

Unfortunately no photos to upload nor extensive information on schools in Thailand to give you as during our stay in this country c was the summer holidays (because of the new year coming soon, biggest festival Thai!). Therefore impossible to visit a school, that is why we changed our plans and decided to go to Laos 3 to 4 weeks back from south to north and not doing the reverse as was originally planned to go back then a week in Thailand before going to Cambodia to visit schools.
Here are the scant information we have gleaned a right to left as well as possible since we repeat people speak English poorly here. In reality only the people who work in tourism (vendors, tuk tuk, internet, restaurants ..) speak a little English and often they do not actually know what to say what they need: to talk about prices (and therefore the numbers , say that it is not enough that they lose the money that they make us a special discount, etc.), destination (or are you going? hotel, temple, etc. .. c is beautiful, not so far. ) this kind of thing.

The school in Thailand is not mandatory, many children are never or only a few years ecole al. In addition there are in India as public and private schools, the public are free but we must of course still purchase the uniform (also children wear a uniform to go al school) and the material and some families can not and afford private pay and are of course dear!
conditions of teaching are not the same in private and in public and in private unless there is an actual class sizes, more material was available, most of the subjects taught as English for example (not at all taught in public school!).
Note also that search did not so many schools in Thailand that ca because of low attendance, and for those who live in town usually no problem but for others it gets harder! For example children who live in the mountains of northwestern Thailand that will al school must walk two hours Monday morning to al school and stay all week until Friday evening in the boarding down before making the 2 hour walk back to spend the weekend with their families. They should therefore be on their backs during the march their schooling and their personal business (clothes, toiletries and clothing
..) for a week, even smaller! So children do not generally L school until at least 6, 7 years.
Thai school children Monday to Friday.
That's all for now ... Sorry! We will complete this section of our second pass in Thailand for a month!

Thailand: Transport

The long tail boat (long tail boat) and called for its propeller located very far from the engine which allows to move forward even when the funds are very high.

The tuk-tuks, you remember the auto-rickshaws in India? Well these are the same.

In Thailand there are a lot of street vendors of all kinds, they use scooters as vehicles equipped with a truck on the side, a like a sidecar. At left, a vendor of pancakes (kind of pancake) that we eat here filled with layers of banana and condensed milk ...

The train, the seats here are nois and we drive by night and day with the windows wide open.

buses. This one is a bus from Bangkok which is not very recent, but there are buses in Thailand very beautiful, very comfortable and recently with reclining seats, air conditioning, television and dvd player etc.. The bus is the node transit used by most Thais.

The songthaew is a truck or a pickup truck whose back has been adjusted to able to receive passengers. They SOMTI economy but not comfortable at all.

The Thais love scooters, it's everywhere, all colors and all shapes and as you can see they love to modify and embellish.
